Yuriy was born and brought up in a Christian family in the Ukraine. He became a believer at seventeen, quickly becoming involved in the life of the church as a preacher and youth leader. In due course, the Lord gave him a desire to learn more of his Word.
In 1999, he studied with EMF and then at London Theological Seminary (London Seminary). Yuriy joined EMF in 2003. Maryia was born in Ukraine to a non-Christian family. At the age of twelve, through US missionaries ministering in Kiev, she came to faith. They married in September 2009.
During his studies in London, Yuriy met Russian-speaking believers who were praying for a ministry to Russian people. In 2001, he helped to establish regular Bible studies, and in 2002 the group joined East London Tabernacle Baptist Church (ELT). In 2003, Yuriy was appointed assistant pastor to lead the work among Russian speakers.
London now has some 200,000 Russian speakers. At ELT’s Russian-language service on a Sunday, seventy adults and fifteen children meet regularly. (This runs parallel to the English-language service.) Russian-language home groups meet during the week and for young people there is a meeting on Saturday night. The Russian-speaking congregation runs a Sunday School for children aged up to fourteen.
